Things I Know

So one night in Steamboat '06, my first year to go, I cornered Bonnie Bishop in the bathroom to tell her how much I loved her new album (Soft to the Touch at that time) and that I just loved her voice and all the stupid shit you say to people when you're drunk.

Well, for some reason I didn't scare the bejeezus out of her and we ended up friends. I've sold merch for her and she's driven me home when I was drunk.

I got lucky last week and she sent me an advance copy of her new album Things I Know that she's been working on in Nashville for the last few years, and let me tell you- it is GREAT.

It's different from what she's had out before- it's not quite Country, and it's not quite a Blues album, and it's not a live acoustic album. It's a laid back, soulful collection of songs that kind of sinks in like a good margarita.

A few upbeat tunes, a few sad songs, a few love songs. It's more about the songs than the voice, which is saying something, because she can sing.

Yo, yo, you could sing the phonebook dawg...I mean, you can really sing!

My current favorites are Virginia which is a good one to crank up in the car and Little by Little- really my favorite. It's one of those songs that you can listen to when you're having a bad day or a bad week and it fits and makes things better.

I am missing a few tunes that didn't make the album, like Bonnie's cover of Different Groove (Steamboat '08 remembers) and High Times (Clubhouse remembers that one) but I really am love love loving the new album.

15 Hours and Counting...

So in roughly 15 hours it will be 0700-ish Wednesday morning and, God Willing, I will be giving a nice, short report to the same people I gave report to this morning and I will be OUT. THE. DOOR.

I can't even show you pictures of the fabulous lake I am spending my vacation on because the last time I got to go on vacation predates my computer and camera and the great computer crash of '07. Two years I have missed our family vacation because of Nursing School.

Well, my friends, NO LONGER!!!

I am off Wednesday morning to run errands and clean house and put things in order so that Thursday evening I can be well on my way with my parents and by this time (1600) on Friday I will, Please God, be on a boat in the prettiest lake I have ever seen working on my bitchin' tan.

I'm taking baby Layla to the vet to board for the week and I am SO nervous about leaving her. There's no way I can take her on a 8+ hour car ride and then house her in an unfamiliar place with 15 other people...so I'm stuck with boarding her and I"m going to miss her :( A lot.

I will definitely try to "live blog" from the vaca spot so you can all be hella jealous. Woot.

I have SO much to do though before I go. I need to get some booze, wash a LOT of clothes, get my toes and my hair done (the most important), probably buy more sunscreen. Tan. You know, the really important things. make sure everything is all charged up. Stop the mail and the paper.
